Samba FC San Antonio Impresses In Home TPSL Debut With 5-2 win

San Antonio's newest professional men's soccer team marked its historical debut in Texas Premier Soccer League on Sept 30 and with an impressive 5-2 win over Killeen FC Knights at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex.

The game was the first chance for San Antonio fans to see competition in TPSL and both teams did not disappoint. Samba FC San Antonio showed some impressive talent, and jumped out to a fast start, pressuring FC Knights and earning several shots and corners in the first 15 minutes. The goal soon followed in the 16 minute when Samba FC striker Gordinho received a pass from defender Isaiah Shine and with a diving volley scored the first teams goal in history.

Genova FC continued their dominance and tallied two more goals before halftime from midfielder Kevin Guerrero and forward Jose Alvarez.

In the second half FC Knights came out strong and showed more determination in their attack scoring two goals within 20 minutes. The home team settled down and began controlling possession and the game. At minute 64 Josh Chavez scored allowing some breathing room and then 12 minutes later the game was put in the refrigerator when Enoc Roches chipped a shot over the keeper and the ball floated in for a goal. Final score, Samba FC San Antonio 5 and FC Knights 2.

Samba FC is back in action Saturday, Oct. 07 and traveling to Killeen for their debut in TPSL Texas Cup. The cup draw was done in July and the they drew FC Knights in the preliminary round. It is a knock out game. Winner moves on and the loser heads home.
