Harker Heights, Texas. –  Samba FC San Antonio defeated FC Knights 6-1 Saturday night at Summit Soccer Complex in a debut preliminary knock out round of the TPSL Texas Cup.

It was Samba FC who attacked early and creating opportunities, starting with Abdi Mahdi's 25 yarder striking the post and later a free just sailing over the cross bar by Gordinho

The first two goals for Samba FC San Antonio came within minutes from each other. Jose Alvarez found the back of the net at the 12 minute mark and then Gordinho capitalized from a penalty kick after Mahdi was brought down in the box.

Before the halftime whistle, two more goals were added by Samba FC San Antonio. A header by Mahdi from a corner kick whipped in beautifully by Gordinho and a few minutes later Alvarez would score his second goal assisted by Gordinho. FC Knights would get on the scoreboard, and with their only goal, just before halftime.

The second half started and it was a carbon copy of the first half, with Samba FC San Antonio dominating the play and controlling the tempo. At minute 57' Alvarez connected for his third goal. Giving him his first season hat trick and also the first hat trick in history for Samba FC San Antonio. The sixth and final goal would come from Mahdi in the 66 minute and sealing a victory defeating 6-1 against FC Knights.

The result marks the second time Samba FC San Antonio have defeated FC Knights in a 7-day span, having defeated the rival club 5-2 at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex on TPSL opening day September 30.

The semifinal opponent for Samba FC San Antonio will be known on December 16 at an unknown location determined by a draw. Home field advantage is given to the first two teams who's names are drawn first.

SAMBA FC SAN ANTONIO HEAD COACH JOHN REXROAT

On the match:

“Overall I felt we did some things well. I thought the movement was much better than last game. This time we stayed more committed to the 4-3-3 formation. The forwards are doing their job and scoring and that is a big plus. But I am not happy with the midfield. The first touch has been very loose with turnovers. We are just simply giving away to many balls. The defense was much better today and shut down the passing lanes stoping their forwards."

On whether the team will make any adjustments or roster changes for the game vs Twin Cities FC on Saturday.

"I can't say what it will be but I do plan to make some adjustments to strengthen us. Twin Cities is a very talented team. They control the ball very well and attack strong. Really looking forward to see on how our boys will respond to them on Saturday."
